who do I blog for?

Jack Nicolson put it brilliantly in the road-trip scene from the 1999 movie As Good As It Gets: Not everyone has a terrible story to get over. Some people have great stories, beautiful stories that take place in parks with friends and noodle salad. Good times, noodle salad. Just no one in this car.

If you're overwhelmed today or need help facing a painful yesterday, you're in the right place. You matter to God. It (whatever it is), matters to God. But no one can make that discovery for you. I'm here to comfort, inspire, and even challenge you along the way. The lessons I learned throughout my toughest years of healing were never just for me. God had you in mind as well. You are why The Medicine Place exist.

If a life can be a book, I open mine to you. Read my story, and gain new insight into your own.

The Impact of Neglect

Ask God today, "Have I been neglecting something or someone?" If you are the one being neglected, talk to God about how you're feeling. He created you and will bring you comfort. And it's okay to pray for someone to have conviction over their neglect, as long as you're asking in love and not from a place of anger or judgement. If you're feeling angry and judgemental, tell Him, and allow Him to minister to you. We cannot overcome what we deny.

"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:18 NKJV)

For many years I neglected myself. As God began to heal my past, I became more aware of my needs and more willing to take better care of myself. In the beginning, it began with pouring myself a glass of water when I was thirsty or taking a bathroom break when I first felt the urge to go, instead of making myself finish chores before going. If you are a survivor, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

For some, today is about watering yourself. For others, it's about watering plants, pets, and people. If neglecting a plant grieves God, how much more does it grieve Him to see the broken-hearted neglected?

"They dress the wounds of my people as though they were not serious. "Peace, peace!" they say, when there is no peace.(Jeremiah 6:14 NIV)

God takes our wounds seriously.
